Unformatted text preview: ME 343 1309 Midterm #1 10/5/2009 This Exam is closed book and closed notes. A one page (8.5” X 11”) ONE SIDED note sheet is allowed. You are encouraged to show all of your work in an effort to maximize partial credit potential. All problems may be solved either graphically of analytically. Remember vector answers need. both magnitude and direction. —Good Luckl Problem 1 (15 Points) Given the package moving device seen in figure 1, construct a kinematic diagram and compute the mobility, DOF, for the mechanism. Problem 2 Part A (10 Points) Given the engine cylinder seen in figure 2, construct a kinematic diagram and calculate the mobility. Figure 2: Engine cylinder Part B (10 Points) Assume the original crank angle is 30°; determine the linear displacement of the piston as the crank is rotated 60° Counterclockwrse. Assume the height of the truck bed, h: 60”. Figure 3: Truck bed Given vectors A and B seen in figure 4, compute the resultant, R, Preblem 4 (15 Points) of: R=A+B. Figure 4: Vectors A and B Problem 5 (20 Points) Given the embossing mechanism seen in figure 5, determine the linear displacement of the stamp as the handle is rotated 150 clockwise.
