A 3-day course on people management for Professional Engineers. WHO WILL BENEFIT The course is designed to help all Professional Engineers with management responsibilities for other staff as section leaders, supervisors, managers, engineers-in- charge, etc. The course should be taken once responsibility has been gained either from assumed responsibility or after appointment to a management position. Professional Engineers will benefit from the opportunity to stand back and consider the basic issues of good people management, how these inter-relate, and how they apply to themselves. GENERAL AIM To enable Professional Engineers in positions of management responsibility to become more effective in the management of themselves, their staff and their customers. OBJECTIVES As a result of this management training course Professional Engineers will be better able to: 1. Communicate effectively: - orally and in writing - in briefing others 2. Develop people: - through appraisal and counselling - by coaching and on-the-job training - by formal assessment - by discovering what motivates others - through performance review and appraisal 3. Solve problems and make decisions: - through a more systematic approach - by consensus 4. Work in teams: - by running effective meetings - using the team role approach - by being an effective team member 5. Organise themselves: - in better use of time - in personal analysis and goal setting - through planning and monitoring - by effective delegation EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT COURSE OBJECTIVES
