Melting Points and Boiling Points Abstract: The measurement system of melting Points and boiling points were calibrated. A correlation table between the true and measure value was made. Liquid unknown #13 was identified as Methanol by the technique of Refractive Index, and the solid unknown #19 was identified as Succinic Acid since its melting point is same as measurement. Introduction: In the Organic Chemistry, a structure determines both its physical properties and its reactivity. The physical properties, such as melting points, boiling points, molecular weight, density, and refractive index are determined by intermolecular forces. Since each compound has the unique structure, each of them has the unique physical properties. Measure the physical properties of an unknown is the simple and fast way to identify which compound it is. The compounds have the different structure, so they have the different intermolecular forces. The compounds need the energy to break the forces, so each compound prefers to still
