MANAGEMENT SUMMARY This paper has been prepared to indicate the contribution of the Hotel Industry to advances in accommodation provision over the centuries. The continued development of the Industry has enabled vast employment to be facilitated together with exceptional revenue earning possibilities. This development driven by consumer demand provided the impetus for development to include the new ideas of the day. Currently the technological explosion requires careful attention from the Hotel industry to ensure all guest requirements are met. INTRODUCTION Hospitality requirements to travelers during the Stone Age - Warmth - Food and Shelter. As people developed so too does the expansion of accommodation requirements for the traveler. Spa's, bath houses with sleeping quarters, were very popular in Medieval times. Cloisters and Abbeys provided travelers with accommodation and this form of accommodation developed into Inns, Guesthouses, Coaching Inns, providing accommodation on Trade routes, with food and lodging for merchant and their horses.
