I will try to explain how to set up your tomcat server so you can try the jsp page that I  coded to connect to MySQL and retrieve data from it. I supose that you have already installed JDK (Java Compiler) in your computer, if not,  you can go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html and download the self- extracting RPM file for linux. Ok, to install Tomcat you can go to http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/ and download the  binary file (tomcat-4.1.18.tar.gz). To install it, you can follow this steps: 1. Once you have saved the file in your desired folder (I just saved it in my home  directory), you can proceed to uncompress it by going to a terminal window and typing: tar xzvf tomcat-4.1.18.tar.gz This should have created a folder with the same name as the file you just uncompressed. 2. In the terminal window, go to the bin subfolder of the tomcat folder you just created (/ home/hooper/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18/bin in my case) and type: ./startup.sh That should start-up the Tomcat server. To test if it's running, just go to a web browser
