Mental retardation Intelligence is a characteristic that is averagely distributed in the population in terms of genetics. Points where it changes direction is called inflection points on the intelligence bell curve. Mean is 100 standard deviation is 15 pts. Alfred benet: created an intelligence test that would calculate your mental age. Made a crucial assumption that for the perfectly average person, that persons mental age will develop at exactly the same rate as their chronological age (Mental age/chronological age) times 100
