UTL 202 – Lopez October 27, 2009 Sheri Hanslik 7 th Grade Texas History Lesson Plan #3 Reflection For my third lesson I made Indian Fry Bread with the students. The purpose of this lesson was to give the students a hands-on approach to learn about Native American culture. Half of the students were in the classroom with my CT taking a quiz while I had the other half in the adjacent kitchen making the fry bread and then we swapped. While we were making the fry bread, I told them about why the Native Americans made this dish and how now, in places with higher Hispanic populations, transculturation has occurred with the dish and many people make them as tacos. I think my time was planned almost perfectly. I was able to get the information I wanted to across and the students were able to make and eat their fry bread in the time I was allotted. We even had plenty of time for clean up! All in all, I found the lesson to be very successful. The students really seemed to enjoy the lesson and I believe it gave them valuable information.
