Classics 09.11.09 Tiberius immediately takes command of all the military (AD 14) Augustus has already given him all the formal powers (pg 36) first order of business, the senate meets to take care of funeral He convenes the senate to talk about the will ans the funeral of Augustus (pg 37) Tacitus begins with favorable opinions about the reign of Augustus Bad opinion about Augustus saying he acted out of lust for power, he was ruthless and unprincipled Tactitus goes through all the sources to find the good and the bad, and he gives commentary on both the good and bad opinions the good opinions come first and the bad opinions come last, intentionally so it sticks in the mind Tactitus has a very skeptical view of the empire The senate at the request of Tiberious makes Augustus diafied (made into a god) The diafication is on page 39 Tiberious takes command of the armed forces Tacitus says Tiberious hesitates and says power should be devided
