Tested for the strength of their character  Education will involve intellectual and physical component (intellectual is more  important) but both are important  Education:   A. Intellectual  Physical Argument:  Young children lack the full capacity to reason  They don’t understand the way things are the way they are and why they have to  act the way they do (377B section)  Cause:  o Initial education must proceed by making an appeal to their  passions  o children have to be repulsed or attracted to something to learn from  it  o Ugliness vs. beauty Repulse children from a certain set of behaviors  An you want to have children find another set of actions attractive  Moral behavior should have a hold on our feelings and our attitudes, one  that integrates moral behavior into the texture of our lives (Break)  Poetry talking about nature of god
