1 EE 483 – Introduction to Digital Signal Processing Spring 2009 Homework #8 – Due Wednesday, March 11, 2009 by 4:30 p.m. 8.1 Determine analytically the power-complementary transfer function of the BR transfer function H ( z ) = 0.9 1 ± z ± 1 + z ± 2 1 ± 0.9 z ± 1 + 0.8 z ± 2 ² ³ ´ ´ µ · · . 8.2 Let D 2 ( z ) = 1 + d 1 z ± 1 + d 2 z ± 2 denote the denominator polynomial of a second-order causal transfer function. Develop the conditions to be satisfied by the coefficients d 1 and d 2 to ensure the BIBO stability of the transfer function by using the stability testing procedure of Section 7.9.2 of text. 8.3 Realize the FIR transfer function H 5 ( z ) = (1 + 0.4 z ± 1 ) 5 in the following forms: (a) two different direct forms, (b) cascade of five first-order sections, (c) cascade of two second-order sections and a first-order section, and (d) cascade of second-order section and three first-order sections. Compare the computational complexity of each of these realizations.
