Study Guide for January 22: 1. Whom do most citizens of most countries believe "us" is? Do American corporations fit into the category of "us"? How about IBM? Texas Instruments? How about small companies? Us is typically the one’s with American workers, and not American corporations. American corporations with more foreign workers do not mean as much to America as a whole. IBM is important to us, but it is also one of Japan’s biggest exporting companies. Although these companies are big, they supply a huge amount of other countries’ exports, and typically not ours. 2. Which trend is currently accelerating 1) U.S. companies are moving their bases of operations abroad or 2) foreign corporations are investing in the U.S.? 3. How important does Reich consider the "flag" or "control" of a corporation to be? Do American (or Japanese) companies put national interests ahead of shareholder interests? No, companies do not do this.
