How much congruence do you think there is between your actual, ideal, and ought
selves? How does this affect how you think, feel, and act?
I think Rogers is accurate when he states that he felt congruence was rare. Being
who you are, who you want to be, and who you feel you should be is hard to be all at
once. Personally, I feel congruence in who I want to be, and who I am; my Ideal and
actual self. I think I have aspects of who I should be, but nobody is perfect so I feel the
most incongruence in my ought self paired against my actual and ideal self. My ideal self
influences me the most. I feel that the idea of ought self is influenced by society, so it’s
best to be your authentic self.
Briefly summarize your thoughts on Rogers's major concepts of the self, self-
actualization, and unconditional positive regard.
