Kinesiology 200 Lab Computer Lab - Beta Oxidation (10 points) KEY Complete oxidation of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) can be broken down into three major steps: l. Transport of LCFA's across the mitochondrial membrane. ll. B-oxidation of fatty acyl-CoA. lll. Oxidation of acetyl-CoA units produced by B-oxidation via the Krebs cycle. Step I can itself be broken down into four steps: a. LCFA activation. b. Transformation of LCFA into LCF acyl-carnitine. c. Transfer from the outer mitochondrial membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane. d. Transformation of LCF acyl-carnitine back into LCF acyl-CoA. 1.
