There is overwhelming evidence for descent with modification . Evolution by natural selection: there is variation among individuals; some of the variation is heritable; descent with modification leads to divergence and diversification; natural selection is the major determinant of which “modifications” persist and which do not. Outline Change over time. Fossil record of North American horses. Body size in woodrats. Beaks of Galapagos finches.
