Weeks and 1 and 2 Prof. K. N. Houk (Office 5505B, Mol Sci) Office Hours: Friday 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM in MolSci 4100, or by appointment. Virtual Office Hours: Material regarding this course will be posted in voh. Extra credit (5-10 points) will be given to exceptionally well-formulated questions posted in voh. These will be given credit in class. Teaching Assistants: Cortnie Vogelsberg, Saori Shiraki and Zach OBrien Textbook: (A) Brown, Foote, Iverson, & Anslyn Organic Chemistry, 5th Edition (Required) (B) Study Guide & Solution Manual for Brown, Foote, Iverson & Anslyn Organic Chemistry, 5th Edition (Optional). Homework : There will be no graded homework but no less than 10% of quiz and exam material will come from homework problems. A list of recommended problems is attached. Additional sets will be given in class. Quizzes 30% (50 points ea.): There will be three 15 min quizzes in the days listed in the schedule of classes. All are closed book. Missed quizzes will count as zero. All quizzes count and there will be no makeup quizzes. Quizzes will be handed out at the beginning of lecture at 12:00 noon and will be collected at 12:15 PM sharp. Midterm Exams* 40% (100 points ea.): Fri. Oct 23 and Fri Nov 20, 12:00 - 12:50 PM. Final Exam* 30% (150 Points): Monday, Dec 7, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM (3 h). Room tba All exams are closed book. The final exam is comprehensive. Unexcused absences will count as zero.* Written documentation must be provided for excused absences. Answer keys will be posted on VOH. You will have access to your scores and may calculate your current grade at the My UCLA web page: http://my.ucla.edu/ (extra credit will be posted in the comments box).
