ECEN 689 - Statistical Computation in Genomic Signal Processing Term: Fall 2009 Credits : 3 Meeting Times : MW 4:10 pm-5:25 pm Description: This course aims to introduce the basic methods of statistical computation needed for the processing and analysis of genomic and proteomic data produced by large-scale technolo- gies, such as gene-expression microarrays and protein-abundance mass spectrometry. After an introduction to molecular biology, the course will cover the application of classical statistics and statistical pattern recognition methods to gene-expression and protein-abundance data, comple- mented by demonstrations and exercises using the open-source R statistical software and the Bioconductor library. Grading will be based on assignments, presentation of journal papers, and a ±nal written exam. Instructor: Ulisses M.
