As compensation, NBC is giving Conan and staff a $40 million severance package. And although he won’t be free for his next gig until September, O’Brien has already begun looking for his next opportunity. Among the stations include Fox, ABC, and Comedy Central. But no matter what, based on the recent rise in Tonight Show ratings and the huge following Conan has, he won’t be struggling. NBC decided to remove Conan for several reasons. Based on past numbers, Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” fares better in ratings than Conan’s. Leno is a big player for NBC, and when he approached them about getting his old spot back, they felt Conan was not as
