OLS 274 Applied Leadership: Functions, Structures, and Operations of Contemporary Organizations Fall Semester, 2009 Course: Credit 3 An introduction to the functions, structures, and operations of organizations that an Organizational Leader must know. Course Design : OLS 274 is an introduction to applied leadership in the context of organizational functions, structures, and operations as they appear in working organizations. OLS 274 then takes the basic organizational knowledge learned in lecture and asks students to apply that information, using the case study / simulation approach. In addition to introducing the basic functions, structure, and operations of organizations OLS 274 will help students consider the leadership challenges faced by organizational leaders. Case-Based Scenario OLS 274, in alignment with its title “Applied Leadership,” will be conducted as semester-long case study/simulation. In the simulation you have the role of an intern in a professional services firm. The class is a simulation of an internship, not an actual intern experience, so no internship credit will be awarded for participating in OLS 274, and you cannot list this course as an internship experience. Participation in the simulation is not optional, as it is a key component of the course design. Keywords Applicable to Career Development and Job Hunting: Leadership, Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Teams, Communication, Organizational functions, structure, & operations Course Audience : OLS 274 is a course intended for all majors. OLS 274 is NOT intended for junior and senior students who have completed a suite of business classes already .
