Memorandum To:  Mr. Dials From: Michele Rhoads Date: 9/29/08 Subject: “E-business” Assignment Two Topic: E-Business: Doing Business Online (Chapter 7)  “For the e-commerce entrepreneur the world of online trading provides a whole host of  advantages and opportunities that simply did not exist before the advent of the web. These  include a radically reduced time to market, improved customer relationships, low cost market  entry and easier access to a global market. However, e-commerce is not just about selling a  pair of shoes to Mr. or Mrs. Smith in Oak Ridge. As well as using the web for direct sales,  online retailers can also display products, raise brand awareness and offer post-sales support  to their customers.  From the point of view of the consumer they have access to a 24-hour  virtual shopping district with an infinite number of choices all from the comfort of their own  homes and offices.”  Considering the statement above in relation to our text, Chapter 7, the first question one might  ask is “what are the capabilities and benefits of E-business to both businesses and  consumers?”  There are enormous benefits in doing business over the web for both businesses and  consumers. E tailing, or the webs virtual storefront, offer an attractive alternative to the brick- and-mortar retailing. E tailing offers benefits to both business and consumer. The business  incurs low overhead and administration costs while maintaining remarkable customer service.  Many companies pass this saving down to the consumer by offering freebies, discounts, or  other incentives to make the purchase more desirable. The consumer benefit is the
