SYLLABUS The Anderson Graduate School of Management, UCLA Course Title: Intermediate Financial Accounting Course Number: Management 120B, Section 1 Quarter: Fall 2008 Instructor: Tamara L. Berges Meeting Days: Monday & Wednesday Meeting Times: 12 – 1:50pm Meeting Dates: September 29 – December 3, 2008 Final Exam Friday, December 12 , 2008 8am – 11am Class Location: Dodd 146 UCLA Office: Anderson School of Management, Room D 420 UCLA Office Hours: E-mail address: tberges@ucla.edu C OURSE D ESCRIPTION This course focuses on the financial reporting and analysis issues associated with liabilities and owners’ equity. Specific topics covered include long term leases, bonds, pensions, deferred income taxes, stock options, stock based compensation, convertible securities, retained earnings, dividends and treasury stock,. Other topics include cash flow statements and earnings per share. This is an “impacted” class and therefore in accordance with school policy, you may only drop it within the first two weeks. C OURSE G OALS AND O BJECTIVES Develop an understanding and comprehension of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to the basic accounting process. This class is the first part of the two part series of Intermediate Financial Accounting. After completing this course, the student should be able to: Understand the accounting concepts and prepare and use the accounting information. Recognize where traditional financial statements may and may not be adequate. Recognize emerging approaches, understand how they may improve on the traditional, and integrate the two.
