What is janusconfiguration?
Calibrating a ship's bi-directional Doppler speedlog. A typical Doppler speed log is described indetail as well as a number of techniques used toaccurately calibrate both the longitudinal andlateral speed components.Ship speed is transmitted to remote display byfeeding outputs from the speed log to variousnavigations devices as well as shipboardcomputer system.
The placing of the Janus configuration in a foreand aft direction is known as a single axis systemand is used to calculate speed over ground in theforward and after direction. A dual axis systemplaces a second grouping of Janus configuredtransducers in an athwartships direction allowingfor the calculation of a vessel's speed whenmoving sideways through the water, as indocking. The beam width of the athwartshipinstallation is about 8 degrees to account for thepossibility of a vessel's rolling.
