Hernandez 1 Noel Hernandez Professor Diaz English 1302 05 October 2008 Men Are No Better Than Women The author Sojourner Truth, in the essay “Ain’t I a Woman?” uses an emotional perspective to inform black woman that men should not treat them any different because they are females or because they are black. This essay was specifically directed to black feminist woman to inform them of what they have suffered and how they should be treated as. The author shares her life experiences as a slave to prove that men are not better. Every time she says “Ain’t I a woman?” she compares herself to a man and what men go through. She uses ethos throughout her essay to get her point across. Sojourner was an older black woman who had 13 children and served as a slave for many years. Her life was obviously very stressful but she was able to express herself thoroughly by her life’s experiences and wisdom that she had gained over time. In this essay Sojourner uses a personal experience when she says “That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches… Nobody ever helps
