Palermo 10:00am-10:50am Response Paper to Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse Five Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse Five took place during approximately 1945-1968. A novel about a man named Billy Pilgrim, born in 1922 in Ilium, New York. Billy is described as a funny-looking, weak youth, but does reasonably in high school who later grows up to be an Optometrist. Billy attended the Ilium School of Optometry but is later drafted into the army during World War II. Billy is thrown into the Battle of the Buldge in Belgium and is immediately taken prisoner behind German lines. Just before his capture, he experiences his first incident of time shifting where he sees the entirety of his own life from the beginning to end. From then on, Kurt Vonnegut takes us to different events in Billys life, from when he got married, his daughters wedding, when he was put into the POW camp in Germany, and when he was abducted by aliens called Tralfamadorians, where they explained to him their perception of time,...
