I am very interested in two particular perspectives that Emily offers in her essay that I think are not only interesting and applicable to Johnny Depp, but also the topic of Stardom as a whole and understanding its cultural implications in a larger framework. The first is this idea of viewpoints and concepts getting “lost in translation” and how perceptions of star images unfold differently within various contextual frameworks of societies and cultures. The other concept concerns the degree of consumer-interaction in the cinema industry and its implications for both how films are created as well as the fate of the industry’s players (the “stars”). “Ideas get lost in translation” It would be interesting to see how members of various cultures who are similar in age, gender, and other demographic categories view certain stars. What types of cultural characteristics affect our liking/dislike of people we know only through characters, public discourse, and our imaginations? Is this
