December 19, 2008 Communication 3010 Final Paper – Slammin’ Yamz! As a representative of the food science program and Cornell University’s Dairy Bar, I realize that there are several different strategic approaches that can be taken when pitching a new ice cream flavor to both a retailer and a consumer . Upon having read the book, “The Art of Woo” in my Business and Professional Speaking class at Cornell, an overarching theme especially stuck out in my mind that, while seemingly obvious, in just one sentence, illuminates the key to a successful sales pitch: “Talk about what they want, and show them how to get it .” This idea, which comes from chapter 6 titled, “Give Them Incentives to Say Yes: Interests and Needs,” provides the fundamental foundation upon which I would construct and deliver a sales pitch for a limited-time ice cream flavor, Slammin’ Yamz, to Ben .
