PSYN 101 Reflection Paper 3 The nature of the crime and the circumstances surrounding the individual would play a huge role on deciding whether a mentally incapable person should be sent to jail or a mental hospital. In my opinion if a person commits a crime and shows some level of sanity then he/she should be tried in jail. A mentally ill person who has committed a crime and shows understanding between life and death he/she should be tried in jail. If somebody commits a murder then the person’s guilt cannot be taken lightly. Even though people are mentally ill if they continue to show violent behavior and commit crime then such person should at least be jailed. Even though they are driven wild by their delusions but after taking someone’s life they should at least bear some responsibility. It may seem cruel to treat mentally ill people by sending them jail. But they are also human and have the same right and responsibility as any other person. A serious crime which affects many people’s lives committed by the hands of such individual cannot
