Assignment 1 1. The benefits of the completion of human genome project A project as important as the Apollo project and Manhattan project, the HGP has a widely use in different fields. For instance, it helps scientists find a lot of genes that are due to some single gene disorder, it also makes a contribution to the development of genetic engineering. HGP can help some population cohort have a high frequency of diseases. For example, the Pima Indians in Arizona have a high frequency of extreme obesity and diabetes. (1) Absolutely, it can also help to develop society and economy. The origin of HGP is another example to find a method to cure tumor, as Renato Dulbecco states in an article launched in 1986. (2) In my opinion , the most obvious benefit of the completion of human genome project is the new opportunity to diagnose and cure some hereditary disorder such as what I mentioned above, the single gene disorder like Phenylketonuria, Hemophilia, Sickle-cell disease, and Turner syndrome.
