Andrew T. Hedrick Chem 32 Section S 10/18/02 Experiment 6 – Periodic Behavior of Metals Purpose:  To rank metals in a reduction activity series to see if there are trends in  reactivities with the H +  ions. To notice trends in many reactive properties and if  these correlate to trends on the periodic table. Experimental Plan:  The instructions for this plan were based on The  Thompson  General Chemistry 2  Lab Manual, pages 74-77. The only change was that we  observed the reaction of Ag instead of reacting it ourselves. Data and Observations: Cold H 2 O Hot H 2 O Cold HCl Hot HCl Ag no rxn no rxn no rxn no rxn Al no rxn no rxn low bubbles -- Ca bubbles with  mild violence -- -- -- Cu no rxn no rxn no rxn no rxn Mg no rxn no rxn violent reaction -- Mn no rxn no rxn extremely  violent -- Ni no rxn no rxn no rxn med. bubbles,  turned green Pb no rxn no rxn no rxn low bubbles Zn no rxn
