BIOPL1120: Issues in Social Biology: from Diet to Diseases, DNA to Deforestation Grading guidelines for presentations and term papers If the student does an adequate to good job of a presentation or term paper, following all the guidelines for the research, reading articles, and reporting on these articles then the resulting grade should be 8 out of 10 (equivalent to a B grade). 8 is the default score . The guidelines are repeated below. To receive a score higher than 8 the student should produce a term paper or presentation acknowledged by the reader or audience to be very good. The student should show evidence of extra effort in the reading, research or presentation, as well as providing the audience/reader with a well-informed account. The student should be adequately able to answer questions following a presentation. A score of 9 can be equated to B+ to A-. To receive a score of 10 the student would have to produce an outstanding presentation or term paper, with evidence of having considerably exceeded the minimum requirements for the number of articles read and should have followed in these articles back to the original sources. In addition, the student should show evidence of fully understanding the material, and writing about it or presenting it in an integrated, fully-informed fashion, clearly understandable by the reader or audience. A grade of 10 (equivalent to an A or A+) should be considered a rarity. If the job done by the student does not match the guidelines such that the research is inadequate or skimpily or poorly done, or the information is not well presented and/or integrated either orally or in writing, then the grade shall be between 5 and 7, with 7 (equivalent to B- to C+) representing a slight deficiency, 6 (equivalent to about
