Introduction Family Medical Center is a rural medical practice located in Commerce Texas. The practice involves two doctors, who are brothers, and a number of advanced practitioners, PA’s and NP’s. The practice has been located there for approximately 20 years. They service a large number of patients from the area. To support the practice, they also hire 4 personnel who serve as the office staff. Currently, all records are stored in a paper based filing system in a traditional format. This approach involves enormous storage space for the current records and the expense of large archival storage. It is also expensive to continue providing storage for such a large volume of records, but it is mandated by law that all patient records are to be maintained for the life of the patient
