Ryan Sanders ISE 310 Assignment 11 1. This chapter covers analysis tools to evaluate the layout and MHS. Performance of a layout is dependent on dynamic flow of products and customers within the layout system. Throughputs, bottlenecks, queues, utilization of machines and work-in-process, and overall congestion in the MHS are also important performance measures. The 3 types of performance models for analyzing material handling systems: Analytical open-system models – the products and commodities flowing through the material handling system enter the network at certain points, then leave the network at others. Analytical closed-system models – the products and commodities are finite and captured within the material handling system network. Discrete-event simulation models - The 4 fundamental integration principles: Tangential circulation flow network – used when the circulation or MHS flow network is tangential to the activities in the facility layout.
