Very weather and temperature specific. (remember moisture content in the material) Typically will be adjusted in the master schedule to perform work in less time. Plaster - All elements of a gypsum or portland cement plaster membrane include several coats of plaster, metal reinforcement, accessories, and backing paper when required. Is gypsum a renewable resource??? (look in book) Plaster mix Mortar consisting of properly proportioned quantities of cementitious materials, aggregate (sand, vermiculite, perlite), water, and sometimes pigments, plasticizers, and other admixtures. Stronger plasters are produced using rough, sharp, angular aggregates (rather than round smooth aggregates) Gypsum Chemically unique Add water and it turns plastic. It may be molded and shaped. After it sets, it is an effective fire barrier. Pure form is known as Plaster of Paris. Has been used in some form since 2000 B.C. Gypsum At the factory, two general types of products are produced: Bagged plaster may contain a number of different additives (sand, perlite, wood fiber). Board products gypsum board (drywall) Plaster Support Systems Remember assemblies - Layers of building materials Wood or metal studs Sheathing or Unsheathed Construction Masonry construction Concrete Construction Plaster Support Systems Do not use gypsum plaster on the interior face of an exterior wall, or On the opposite face of an interior partition exposed to wet conditions Why? (know for test) Plaster Support Systems Before applying plaster systems to the ceiling, make sure the ceiling can support the load! Check your walls, too.
