Lectures: Monday and Wednesday, 10:00– 10:50, Armory Building, Room 0112 Discussion Sessions: ALL SECTIONS in Armory Building, Room 0112 Description of Anthropology 240: Introduction to Archaeology Introduction to Archaeology is a global survey of the origins of culture, the rise of social complexity, and European settlement of the New World. The course features the archaeological evidence and models for the origins of humans, the origins of agriculture, and the first cities. The course will cover the importance of stone tools, ancient cave art, the movement of humans into the New World, and the cross-cultural models that explain the beginnings of farming and the common characteristics of civilization. The final third of the course is devoted to historical archaeology, particularly the global impact of European expansion between the 15 th and 20 th centuries. Religious Observances It is the policy of the University of Maryland, College Park that students not be penalized in any way for participation in religious observances. However, it is the student's responsibility to inform Professor Brighton or Ms. Zimmerman of any intended absences for religious observances in
