Unformatted text preview: Chase Loft English 198 Cabral 1/29/10 Dr. James E. Hansen Dr. James E. Hansen is one of the worlds foremost scholars on climate change. He received his education from the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelors degree in physics and mathematics in 1963, a Masters degree in astronomy in 1965, and a Doctorate degree in physics in 1967 (1). Hansens early research focused on the clouds of Venus, but he soon changed his focus to studies and simulations of the Earths climate. Much of his research utilizes radiative transfer models, which simulate the transfer of energy through a gas. This Interesting to included this information in. I t surely plays a big part on improving our understanding toward how the Earth works. I would like to know more about what he delivered in the testimony. Summarize a little about what he said. Why is it a threat? What evidence did he provide? Like the above, a little vague about his prediction, What made him say that? Some confusion at first to understand, maybe because of the awkwardness in structure. Suggestion: His prediction of high temperature that would take place in early 1990s is significant because it give us less time to take action. Mine maybe wrong to your original idea. I like how you re-state the original quote. It gave me a better understanding as well. Im very confused here. First you said that he works for Al Gore, which you didnt say what he actually contributed to Al Gores campaign. Then you jumped to talked about Bushs administration without any transision. I dont know when you said Hansen doesnt believe politicians are hearing the advice, who was he referring to :Al Gore or Bush? I like how you involved emotion in this issue. Surely it sparkled the topic and add an extra spice to it. Somewhat light on talking about the book. I was looking for more because the previous sentence was great to introduce what particular action he made. The book is one of the way he express his ideas and its just disappointing you didnt go a little further in it. Hes not the only one to do that, why is he still significant? Why do you think his campaign exactly what we need? I meant it is better to included your interpretation about what he had done to the world. I t seems like you conclude his effort in pursuing the public more important than his research/studies. has been especially useful in studying the human impact on climate change because it demonstrates the amount of energy trapped in the atmosphere in direct correlation to the abundance of certain gases in the atmosphere. Hansen was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1996, and since then has received numerous awards and recognition for his outstanding work in the sciences. Some of these awards include the Heinz Environment Award for global warming research in 2001, the PNC Bank Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service, and being listed as one of Time Magazines Most Influential People in 2006.
