Database design methodology – from data requirements to implementation details. Submission due This should be submitted by 25 th April 9am. The exercise will count for 10% and is a part of your assignment . Submission format The report should be submitted in hardcopy. To do: Based on The University Accommodation Office data requirements specification (Appendix 1) do the following: 1. Build a conceptual data model of the system: a. Identify entity types b. Identify relationship types c. Identify and associate attributes with entity types and / or relationship types d. Determine attribute domains e. Determine primary keys Resulting should be the ER-diagram of the system and the list of entities / relationships along with attributes associated with them (Appendix 2). 2. Build a logical data model of the system: a. Derive relations based on entities identified on pervious step b. Implement relationships between the above using primary key / foreign key mechanism Resulting should be the ER/relation diagram of the system and the list of relations along with their attributes and primary / foreign keys (Appendix 3). 3. Translate the logical data model derived on previous step into the physical data model for ORACLE DBMS (version 8.1.x): a. Design base relations / representation of derived data b. Write SQL statements to create the above structures and populate them with sample data Resulting should be the SQL script for creating and populating the above relations in ORACLE DBMS (Appendix 4). 4. Design 2 user views to access information from same relation (choose one yourself) and write SQL statements to implement them in ORACLE DBMS (version 8.1.x). Resulting should be the SQL script and screenshots of retrieving data through those views (Appendix 5).
