Stahoviak 1 Todd Stahoviak Susan Roach English 104 9 December 2009 (Revised) A Younger Adulthood High school is a huge part of a teen’s life. It shapes the way teens are socially and mentally. The friends that teens hangout with show a tremendous amount about who they really are. Keeping schools the way they are now seems to be the most beneficial to our society. All the teachers I had throughout my high school career were willing to help students at any given time, and if they couldn’t help right away they would schedule a meeting time , which varied by teacher. Those times were before school, at lunch, during study hall, or after school. However, none of this changes the fact that teenagers are constantly getting older at a younger age. People say college is the best time of ones life, but what they don’t realize is how valuable high school is. High school allows young adults to develop their social skills with one another. This will make them more prepared for college since they will not be so shy and afraid to talk to other students, or even teachers. High school is an unforgettable time for teenagers. In Leon Botstein’s article “Let Teenagers Try Adulthood” he writes about how high school should be revised and why we should allow teenagers to enter into the real world two years earlier than the proposed age now. In the article, he mainly focuses on the negative aspects of current high school and states that high schools of today are obsolete. Botstein claims that high school is an insider and outsider world that sways for the insiders who have the good looks and attractiveness, popularity, and sports prowess. He also states there are too many groups, saying
