Unformatted text preview: Amy Callaway The Searchers Dr. Hollinger Eckstein sees how Ford molds the story of The Searchers into a film. He takes the real story of Cynthia Ann Parker, the novel by Lemay, and his own personal ideas to create his vision. Ford decided to have Debbie become Scars wife when in the novel Debbie is merely Scars adopted daughter, Ford alters their relationship to get the audience to think about the relationship as sexual and therefore making Debbie tainted. From the screenplay Ford adds sexual tension between Martha and Ethan as she strokes his coat and they give each other an intimate gaze. Ford parallels Ethan with Scar as his dark alter ego saying Ethans prejudices come form him recognizing this. He even makes Martin Pawley a half breed encouraging Ethans hatred even more. Eckstein believes Ford to be the author of the film as he tweaks the true events, novel, and more....
