Amy Callaway 9/21/06 Barbara Haas More than a plague on the people, a plague on the economy A.    Europeans no longer saw their future. All hope was lost for them, they  accepted their death. Farmers let their livestock run loose and did not plant any  crops “because no one had any inclination to concern themselves with the  future”. A majority of the population was dead and even more would die in the  coming months. There was not enough people left to “restore” the cities to what
