S.O.W. - UNIVERSITY PROJECT PROJECT TITLE : Structural Health Monitoring technologies: Corrosion Monitoring of Aircraft Structures OBJECTIVE : Investigate on-board corrosion monitoring opportunities on Bombardier aircraft. DESCRIPTION: Bombardier Aerospace is expending efforts in developing Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). SHM is the process of evaluating the integrity of targeted structural elements using sensors installed permanently on the aircraft with the goal to provide maintenance benefits. Corrosion of airframe during service forces operators to ground their aircraft and perform costly inspections and repairs. On-board monitoring of corrosion damages or aggressive environmental conditions could lead to significant savings. The student will be expected to benchmark available technologies as well as to review past and current work on the subject. He will be asked to identify potential applications of interest on Bombardier aircraft, develop a conceptual design and clearly assess potential benefits and main challenges of corrosion monitoring. He will
