Sushanth Boda 11/01/09 English 125-013 D’Anne Witkowski Essay # 3 – Draft # 1 Delusion I still remember September 11, 2001. I was in the 5th just eating my dinosaur chicken nuggets for lunch and was about to head outside for recess. As everyone was heading for the doors three teachers ran in front of us and told us to go back. They wouldn’t tell us why we couldn’t go out but just that recess was only indoors for today. I was oblivious as to what had just happened on the streets of Manhattan. “All of a sudden there were people screaming. I saw people jumping out of the building. Their arms were flailing. I stopped taking pictures and started crying,” said Michael Walters, a free-lance photo journalist in Manhattan who was present at the attacks of the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11. Two planes were hijacked and flown into the twin towers and tragically taking 2,800 innocent lives. According to Fox News, it really hit Americans because over 20 percent of them knew someone who had gotten hurt or killed during the attacks. Soon after, American intelligence had pinpointed the people responsible to be the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. The group claimed that they were just doing those “acts,” as a way of expressing Islam. After hearing that many Americans started to question the religion of Islam and all of its followers. Many people were assuming that Islam was promoting violence against Americans and that all Muslims were plotting against Ever since the dreadful day of September 11th, many tensions have been brewed up between Muslims and Americans. Many people have characterized all Muslims as violent, and radical without viewing the full perspective of their religion.
