Telomeres The ends of eukaryotic chromosomes are called telomeres. Telomeres contain tandem repeats of TG rich sequences. In humans the sequence TTAGGG is repeated thousands of times. Telomeres bind a group of telomere proteins forming a complex and dynamic nucleoprotein structure that is not well understood. This structure protects the ends of linear chromosomes from degradation and other bad things.

Telomerase Telomerase - a different kind of DNA polymerase. Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein - it contains an RNA. In other words, it contains its own template so it doesn’t need another template. As with all DNA polymerases it adds dNTPs to the 3’ end of primer but it’s template is RNA, not DNA.
