Executive Summary This paper will go into detail about my experience at a gay bar and what lessons I have learned from that experience. Not only will I discuss what I saw and how I felt there, but I will also delve into strategies that will be of assistance the next time I am placed in such a surrounding. Background My high-school friend and scuba diving buddy, Dan, has been struggling with his sexuality for many years now and has only recently been open and up-front about it. Being his close friend, I have been aware to his sexuality for many years now. However, I have never really understood what it meant to be a homosexual and have never been in a surrounding that caters to gays and lesbians. Three weeks ago, I celebrated Dan’s birthday and watch the Houston Astro’s trumped the St. Louis Cardinals in game 4 at a gay bar in the Montrose area of Houston. Dan was turning twenty-nine and wanted all those closest to him to join in the festivities. There was nothing covert about J.R.’s patrons since it was situated right next to South Beach, the most well-known gay destination in Houston.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
