IMPORTANT DATES February 3 - CENSUS DATE April 19 - last day to withdraw (with “W”) March 15-21 - Spring Break INTRODUCTION & COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a “user-friendly” course; it is structured for student success. It is vitally important that students log in regularly and be actively engaged and involved. No prior knowledge of the music industry or music business is required. The intent of Music Business I is to expose and familiarize the students with an overview of the financial, managerial, operative, and administrative components the music industry. Students will be given the opportunity to discover the fundamentals of the music industry, ultimately aiding in the planning of a career in music, music business, and/or other areas of the arts and entertainment industries. Topics include songwriting, recorded music, audio production and engineering, marketing and promotion, publishing, copyright, licensing, concert promotion, venue management, arts administration, artist management, intellectual property, contracts and legal aspects, record companies, music product
