Chapter 2 Summary Robert Sapolsky- warns not to make leaps of logic although if you increase testosterone, aggression increases. Took a group of five male monkeys. Testosterone exaggerates the aggression that’s already there, which is called the permissive effect. Genes don’t cause behaviors, they only influence them. Money and Ehrhardt- girls with androgenital syndrome more like guys and guys with estrogen were more active Problem: Interviews were self reported, no direct observation *girls* Boys who were quiet have mothers who were sick. Bruce Reimer- became Brenda when penis got severed, always felt weird Gunter Dorner- low levels of testosterone during fetal development can make males homosexual and prenatal stress can make males homosexual. More homosexual men are born during war time than peacetime. Problem: Maybe lack of father can cause homosexuality since there is a close bond between mother and son.
