Human Infectious Diseases Lecture 9 1. List the cells of the immune system that participate in: a. The humoral immune response against i. Extracellular bacterial and viral pathogens 1. complement, antibodies, B cells, TH2, dendritic, TH0 ii. Bacterial exotoxins 1. antibodies from B plasma cell b. The cell mediated immune response against: i. Intracellular pathogens sequestered inside of macrophages 1. dendritic cell, TH0 cell, activated TH cell, activated macrophages ii. Virus infected cells 1. CTL-P, dendritic cell, CTL, c. Antibody dependant cell mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) 1. AB producing B plasma cells, Natural Killer cells 2. Be able to tell in a step by step fashion how the adaptive immune system uses: a. Cell mediated immunity to kill a virus infected cell 1. Virus infected cell endogenously processes viral peptides using proteosomes and displays them in MHCI. A dendritic cell captures the virus infected cell and free viruses, processes using proteosomes and displays in MHCI (cross). CTL-P with complementary TCR to Peptide-MHCI complex binds. Strengthened by CD8 and MHCI binding (first signal). Costimulatory signal B7 and CD28 (signal 2). CTL-P induces transcription of Il-2 and Il-2 receptors, activates CTL-P to divide and differentiate to CTLs and CTL memory cells. CTL binds to virus infected cells. TCR binds to peptide-MHCI complex,
