ECH 146 Winter, 2009 Problem Set 5 Due 2/06/09 This short problem set continues our examination of chemical kinetics combined with mole balances for ideal reactors, with a focus on volume change upon reaction. Note that a much lengthier problem set will be due the following week (plan accordingly). 1. The elementary gas phase reaction A B + 2C is carried out isothermally in a flow reactor with no pressure drop. The rate constant at 50ºC is 10 -4 min -1 and the activation energy is 85 kJ/mol. Pure species A enters the reactor at 10 atm and 127ºC and a molar flow rate of 2.5 mol/min.
