The average price of gasoline is $2.276, while in comparison the average price of a gallon of ethanol is $1.559. 2. Assuming the fuel consumption for an automobile with an internal combustion engine is simply based on the amount of energy needed to go one mile, determine the change in mileage for an average automobile if 15% of the gasoline is replaced by ethanol. If 15% of the gasoline is replaced by ethanol, the amount of energy would be 95.1% of the energy content involved with using gasoline (energy is directly proportional to mileage).
