Descartes -- Biography  Born in La Haye (today: Descartes), 1596  Jesuit education at the College at La  Flèche, graduated 1616, Law.  Entered military service of Maurice of  Nassau (30 Years War, 1618-1648)  Returns to France, invests well, then  returns to the Dutch Republic in 1628.   Remains there until 1649.  Invited by Queen Christina of Sweden to  be her personal instructor, but dies there  during his first Swedish winter, 1650.
