Central -when growth cone forms on proximal side, grows out for 1mm then stops, never grows again (aborted outgrowth) -Aguayyo: cut spinal cord, put in a peripheral nerve graph, the peripheral side had the growth outgrowth more than 1mm: it grew through the peripheral graph to the distal side of the CNS nerve -Schwabb: found antibody, IN-1: NogoA -found some growth through NogoA (protein), limited -family of proteins called MAG: OMGP, NOGO are members -found on surface of myelin -these are responsible for inability of CNS to grow more
