Justice Studies Notes 11/02/2008 14:30:00 Chapter Seven Notes Sentencing o Racial disparities Go back to beginning of US,  From 1870s- on black men raping white women, blacks were  sentenced to death immediately. Even after ww2, blacks being executed has always been  disproportionate to whites. Blacks are subject to punishment at much higher rates than  whites o Racial differences Difference between crack cocaine than powder cocaine, and  blacks are more subject to crack cocaine, so incarceration rate  is higher o Whites use drugs about the same amount of blacks o Urban v suburban drug use Drug abuse in suburbs is clearly higher than urban homes urban people tend to be poor, Suburban deal drugs in house while urban drug deals are in  streets. Police can network within the urban area, with connections and  deals Undercover police in urban areas
